Amanda Barrett Wilcox
OVERNIGHT POSTPARTUM DOULA
Amanda is a Holistic Birth, Postpartum and Overnight Doula. After giving birth to her two sons naturally, Amanda was incredibly humbled and empowered by what her body could do. These experiences inspired her to help other women tap into their inner strength, before and after birth, no matter how they choose to do so. She sees in her work, that consistently supporting a woman without judgment during this powerful time is incredibly therapeutic in coping with the challenges of motherhood.
Amanda supports ALL types of families (traditional, non-traditional, gay, lesbian, adoptive, single parent by choice, teenager, any religion/spirituality, military) however they chose to birth, whatever that may mean for them and without judgment. Making sure the birthing person’s and (if applicable) partner’s needs are met as much as possible is important to her. Amanda also likes making sure clients are set up Postpartum with the support they need whether it be hiring a Postpartum doula, breastfeeding support or providing referrals. This is often an underestimated intense time that parents do not realize until they are in it.
Amanda recently relocated from Brooklyn, NY with her husband and two sons. She has supported a wide variety of births from inductions and c sections to unmedicated hospital and homebirths (including homebirth sibling support). She has served a culturally diverse clientele, honoring their preferences.
Amanda has trained in Lactation Consulting, Advanced Doula Training with Penny Simkin, Hand Expression , Comfort Measures, Positioning and many others. Amanda has a Bachelors degree in Therapeutic Recreation and before entering the birth field, worked as a therapist in a specialty hospital, rehab center, and long term care for ten years before entering in the birth field. Amanda is trained in Vinyasa and Prenatal Yoga and believes it is one of many ways to prepare for labor as well as offer a community for new mothers. In her free time Amanda loves hiking outside with her family, gardening, running, and feeling the sun on her face.
